The Trials of Nunavut: Introduction

I was in a media studies class, which focused on power relations in media & understanding media structures to determine why certain content is produced. Our exams were built around critiquing a media piece and applying the tools we learned to make our own conclusions and suggestions. I decided to write about a piece from The Globe and Mail: The Trials of Nunavut.

I found about the piece a week before my exam and it had come at the perfect time, so I began.... and I'd like to share my 'findings' on the article. Overall, The Trials of Nunavut gathered positive responses and from Canadians, although a lot were about first hand accounts or praising the G&M for such an article.

The piece I wrote was 12 pages long - my poor hand! I'll share my thoughts on the Trials of Nunavut with sections from my exam essay throughout this blog.

Note: the conclusions I make and suggest are my attempt of using a media studies perspective. I will imply many many 'things' that are ultimately, questions to and of the media.

The piece was published in April 2011 and can be found here.
